Reflections from our Outgoing Board Members: LaTasha Winstead

As we mentioned previously, several board members are completing their board terms with JRE. Today, we're celebrating LaTasha Winstead. LaTasha joined JRE's board in 2018, and has served as chair of the Health Improvement Committee. At the core of everything, Winstead emphasizes the importance of ensuring that children not only thrive in the present, but also set the foundation to thrive in the future.

Read her reflections of her board service below!

We asked LaTasha why she joined the JRE Board. She shared:

I joined the board because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children in and around Wake County. I am raising two kids as a single parent in Wake County. I wanted to bring my lived experience to JRE as we consider how to provide support and investment in the lives of children and their families. Ultimately, at JRE, we want children to thrive, which aligns directly with my goals as a parent.

What is your favorite moment or accomplishment?

One of my most proud moments was when we, collectively, adopted a mission that better reflected the work we do and the vision for our future. As a board member, we must be good stewards, and that means we must consider all children in Wake County, specifically those most vulnerable, and the ecosystem of organizations that support them.

What are your hopes for JRE’s future?

For the future, I hope JRE continues to remain adaptive and bold in its approach to philanthropy and the grantees and communities we support. Philanthropy shouldn’t be a one-size fits all, so we must continue to lean into the trust-based philanthropy principles and not be afraid to set new standards.

Please join us in thanking LaTasha for her hard work, dedication and service to all Wake County children and families!
