John Rex Endowment Signs Philanthropic Joint Statement in Response to the Supreme Court's Decision in 'Students for Fair Admissions' Cases
The John Rex Endowment has partnered as a signatory of the Philanthropic Joint Statement in Response to the Supreme Court's Decision in 'Students for Fair Admissions' Cases (rwjf.org).
Why it Matters:
Our mission— to strengthen organizations that center racial equity and justice to improve the social emotional health of children living in Wake County— is even more important after the Court’s decision to nullify affirmative action policies in college admissions. The decision endangers sixty years of multiracial movements to challenge our nation to live up to its ideals. The decision erects new barriers to building a society in which everyone has the opportunity to improve their lives, communities, health, and education.

Our partner, The Schott Foundation for Education, offers further validation for our work. “The Supreme Court decision clearly signals that more investments will be needed to ensure Black, Brown and Native students have access to the type of fair and equitable living and learning ecosystems that increase student success at the pre-K, elementary, and high school levels as a pathway for success in higher education.”
We recognize the heightened threats to children’s social emotional health. We will not be discouraged despite adversity. We will continue to advocate and invest in actions to fight harmful policies that are threatening our mission and purpose.
