Learning Opportunity: Anti-Racism Affinity Group for White Leaders
Dear Nonprofit Leaders,
We are happy to partner with John Rex Endowment for the second year as facilitators of a free 4-session peer program for white leaders who are working to center racial equity and justice in their organizations – at any stage of this journey.
We know that leading an organization that centers racial equity and justice is really hard work. We believe that a helpful tool is caucusing within one’s own racial/ethnic group. White caucuses provide time and space to work explicitly and intentionally on understanding white culture and white privilege and, put the onus on white people to learn from each other rather than placing the burden on people of color to teach them.
That is why we are offering this affinity group – open to white, nonprofit leaders who are working to improve the social emotional health of children living in Wake County. It will focus on both the personal and institutional/structural aspects of racism; offering language and frameworks, peer support, and the opportunities to test out actions as leaders.
We are planning for four two-hour sessions scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, April 16, May 14, and June 11, 2024, from 8:30-10:30 AM at the John Rex Endowment office (832 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh).
Participation is capped at 14 participants. We welcome more than one white member of an organization’s senior leadership team if space permits.
PLEASE REGISTER by March 4, 2024.
You will have the opportunity to opt out after the first session, but after that, your consistent participation is essential to building trust and relationships within this affinity group. Please only register if you can commit to attending all four sessions in person. Once registered, one of us will contact you to learn more about your goals, ideas, and any training you have had on racial equity.
